Golden Turmeric Latte
This is a lovely drink to reach for when the day has been a lot. Warm, gently spiced and naturally caffeine-free, it’s a lovely way to signal to your body that the busy part of the day is over.
Ingredients
- 250ml coconut milk drink (the carton kind, not tinned)
- ½ tsp ground turmeric
- ¼ tsp ground ginger, or a 1cm piece of fresh ginger, grated
- A pinch of ground cinnamon, plus extra to serve
- A small pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp maple syrup, or to taste
Method
- Pour the coconut milk into a small pan and whisk in the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and black pepper.
- Add the coconut oil and warm over a low–medium heat for about 5 minutes, whisking often. Don’t let it boil.
- Take off the heat and stir in the maple syrup.
- If you used fresh ginger, pour through a small sieve into your mug.
- Whisk or froth until foamy, dust with a little cinnamon and enjoy while warm.
Tips
- Why the black pepper? It’s traditionally paired with turmeric and you won’t taste it in this amount.
- Turmeric stains, so rinse your pan and mug soon after using them.
- Make a spice jar: mix a batch of the dry spices so each latte is just a spoonful away.
